At the beginning of the month, I challenged us to read at least two books. I hope we all took up the challenge. I did and the book which I have just finished reading is a 90's classic entitled: Second Time Around by Mary Higgins Clark.
A Second Time Around is an intriguing novel full of thrilling suspense. Marcia DeCarlo is a new reporter with the Wall Street Weekly, who has been assigned with two other reporters, to do a collaborative cover story on Nick Spencer, founder of the cancer research company, who has died mysteriously in a plane crash. Nick Spencer's passion to create a Cancer vaccine to stop the dreadful disease came as a result of loosing both his mother, and first wife to Cancer. He had almost succeeded when he realised his efforts were being sabotaged. Unbeknownst to him, his wife, Lynn Spencer in collaboration with Adrian Garner, the Pharmaceutical guru who had invested largely into the cancer vaccine project, and others working in his own company and on the board, planned to kill him, and then, take the cancer patent to themselves.
Carley is not convinced that Nick Spencer is the crook, who stole people's money, despite her own investment in the cancer vaccine project. And as she investigates, one event leads to another, and she discovers the shocking truth about Lynn Spencer, Adrian Garner, Charles Wallingford and Lowell Drexel. This is a must read for everyone.
